Review: Skinfood Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream in #2

*this post contains many bare-faced pictures

hello hello again!

Sorry for disappearing all the time on you guys. >_< My upper class men buddies have been telling me the last semester of the school year is always the hardest and the busiest...and they were totally right. OTL So please forgive my lack of blogging! Hopefully I'll be able to post at least twice a month till I end my freshman year in May! I haven't forgotten about my blog guys...so don't worry. :)

But today, I'm going to share with you a longg overdue review on one of the most essential items a girl should have in her makeup routine. A concealer~

Skinfood Salmon Darkcircle Concealer Cream in #2 Salmon Beige
to be exact!

Concealers are a wonderful thing~ It's great for covering up blemishes, skin discoloration, scars, dark circles, and more. Some concealers can even double up as foundation, leaving you with one less beauty product to put on in the morning and a lighter feeling face during the day. It's a beauty product that can pretty much make your face look flawless.

I have never tried a Skinfood product until this concealer~ I never knew much about this brand. However, I was in need of a concealer since my Revlon Age Defying Concealer mysteriously vanished...I decided to take the chance and try out this one by Skinfood. I read previous reviews on the internet and almost all said it was pretty good~ So I was definitely excited to try it out.

 Packaging

 It comes in a small little glass pot. Personally, I love it. The packaging is sturdy and can easily fit in the palm of my hand. It has a sort of vintage feel to it's packaging with it's screw on cover and recyclable paper wording. {...I hope that makes sense...}

Skinfood came out with two different colored creams. #1 Salmon Blooming, and the one I have #2 Salmon Beige.

#1 Salmon Blooming was a bit too light for my skin color, which leans more toward light-medium. If you have lighter skin, I do recommend trying the #1 shade~

Description:

A dark circle concealer cream with salmon oil that effectively conceals dark circles while promoting brighter, softer skin. The highly concentrated formula applies like a second skin and stay put without clumping, not matter how many layers you apply.

To use: After applying foundation, dispense an adequate amount and then gently tap onto dark circles around the eyes.

It's a cream based concealer. I find it unhygienic because you'd have to keep dipping your finger inside the pot...I recommend using a small stippling brush or a concealer brush to apply this product on your eye to avoid the unhygienic packaging.

Swatched it looks pretty light on my hand, but around my eye it works. It definitely has the heavy duty sort of feel, it is definitely concentrated~.

Now onto the fun part of the post!
I'll be showing you guys my entire bare face to see if this little guy really works with brightening, and getting rid of my pesky dark circles.

I hope I don't scare you guys with the next photos...

But wala! Here is a picture of my bare bare bare face. I'm sorry for my expression by the way... >.< If I smiled, you wouldn't have been able to see my dark circles as well~

 But as you guys can {obviously} see...my dark circles are...pretty bad. And no, it's not the lack of sleep, or the lack of exercise. {Although they do worsen if I actually do those things~}
My dark circles are hereditary. I got them from my dad {unfortunately x3} but I learned to live with them. They are a part of who I am and honestly...if I try to cover it all up completely, I just wouldn't look like me anymore.

You guys can see how bad my dark circles are now. It makes me look tired ALL THE TIME. >.< I hate looking tired! It affects how people view me...like seriously... >_<

So let's see if this concealer can help with my tired face~

 {Fully spread out! I set it with a translucent powder by ELF}

 As you guys can see, the concealer covers up reaaaaally well. The coverage would just have to be medium to full. Plus it is buildable! I can probably cover up everything!
{And mind you...I have tried! However, no matter how much concealer I cake on my face...my dark circles will NEVER go away completely :P Oh Otou-san...how you've cursed me!}

This concealer definitely brightens and awakens my eye~ A little goes a long way with this little baby.

The catch to this concealer is that because it's a cream...it has some tendencies to sink into the fine lines of your eyes. >.< To fix this however, MOISTURIZEEE all around you eye! :)

Ahh~ Now that's better. My full-face of makeup blends in quite well with this concealer~

PROS:

- Packaging is super adorable, small and portable!
- Medium to Full Coverage
- No strong smelling scent
- Fit my shade range
- Long-lasting, around 4-5 hours. When it fades, it still hides my dark circles well enough so it's not  too noticeable

CONS:

- You must moisturize before putting this product on
- Can crease into the fine wrinkles of your skin
- A bit too creamy for my taste, making it sticky to apply
- Unhygienic

Overall: 4.5 / 5

Although I was hoping this little baby would be my holy grail concealer, the Skinfood Salmon Dark Circle Concealer in #2 Salmon Beige turned out to be a pretty good product. It covers up my dark circles well enough so that I don't have to worry about that look of tiredness I always have when I don't have any concealer on. It's easy to use and quick to apply in the morning, and it brightens up my face a lot~ The only thing that stopped me from giving it a perfect score was how unhygienic it was and how it can crease into the wrinkles of my eyes sometimes if I don't moisturize well enough.

  1. i used to think eye creams etc make concealers crease even worse so i suggested on my review to not moisturize beforehand lmao!! it doesn't last that long for me, and this stuff looks cakey when i set it with powder :< but i still use it everyday anyway when i don't bb creams. i still has yet to find my holy grail undereyes concealer. i wonder if you have tried etude house concealers? if you havent, dont!! that creases like a madman! but it's quite good for blemishes though

  2. D: I never noticed...when I apply my moisturizer, it never ends up creasing! I think because this one is a cream, it doesn't affect as much? >.< I'm sorry this one didn't work for you! I've never tried Etude House concealers actually~ I've only ever tried American brand concealers, so maybe my holy grail concealer is mixed in with them Asian brands~ ^_^

  3. I haven't tried any Skinfood products before~ xD I'm quite liking this concealer though~ So I'm assuming their skin care products are even better! :D I'm pretty dark myself... >.< But I think this concealer would work for you~ I have to try the Sonia Kashuk concealer palette! I've seen it at Target...but I never wanted to take the chance and buy it and end up not liking it >.< Thanks Phailee!

  4. Woww, this Skinfood product looks promising! I only have slight dark circles so this coverage should be enough.. although it's a shame that it creases into fine wrinkles :/ And don't worry too much about your dark circles, I think you still look pretty with them :) I've yet to find my holy grail concealer but so far, the Face Shop Radiance Concealer Dual Veil works well with me. What I like about it is that it has a cream concealer on one end and a liquid concealer on the other end. Thanks for the review!

  5. I agree with your review (so thorough!). I've tried moisturizing and one of my wrinkles is just way too deep to work with this because it's creases so readily with the sticky formula. I like it...but I don't like it enough to buy it again. I expected more from Skinfood. :P

  6. I have dark circles under my eyes but the concealers I've tried so far highlight my creases and the dry spots (blah!) around my eyes even after moisturizing. :-( I agree with you on the packaging: it's cute but I prefer a more hygienic tube form. Thanks for the great review! :D
